Against the backdrop of the EU’s data strategy and the multitude of funding programmes dedicated to digitalisation, this event will take a deep dive into why data maturity should be a key focus amidst organisations’ digital transformation strategies. It will present challenges and success stories on data first approaches to leverage data to drive innovation, improve environmental sustainability and strengthen the EU’s data sovereignty.
Gathering leading policy makers at the EU and Member State level, industry and research stakeholders, this event will unpack the importance of data maturity in the EU. As highlighted in a 2022 global survey conducted by HPE, the overall data maturity level – or ability to create value from data of industry and public sectors throughout the world – is 2.6 on a five-point scale, with only 3% of organisations reaching the highest maturity level. Increasing efforts to support organizations across their data maturity lifecycle will be crucial to ensure that valuable digital resources are leveraged to create new breakthroughs, stimulate faster innovation, and develop more agile and data informed policy outcomes.
This event will take a deep dive into why data quality should be a key focus amidst organizations’ digital transformation strategies and present success stories on how to take a data first approach to leverage data and drive innovation, improve environmental sustainability and strengthen the EU’s data sovereignty.

The first episode of this series will look specifically at the digitisation of European small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). While SMEs are the backbone of the European economy, many do not grasp the benefits of digitisation. The EU’s Digital Compass includes the ambitious target to reach over 90% of European SMEs with at least a basic level of digital intensity by 2030, up from 60% in 2020.
This episode of our series takes place against the recent announcement of the European Commission’s
proposal for the European Health Data Space (EHDS), which will benefit from €12 billion investments in digital
health through Member States’ National Recovery and Resilience Plans (NRRPs).
